THE FOREST FIRE

“I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing.  I will send down sowers in season; there will be showers of blessing,”           EZEKIEL 34:26

I recently traveled to the city of Bogota, Colombia to speak at a series of events at several schools and a Church. During my few days there, I stayed at the home of the conference president on the north side of the city, while most of the vents I attended were to take place on the south side of the cit. The traffic we’d encounter each day in this metropolitan area of more than thirteen million people seemed to increase every day. Along the entire western border of the city was sharply rising mountain range.

On the first day of our drive to one of the schools, I suddenly notice that surprised as we drove past it, getting a good look at the huge plume of smoke rising from a section of woods on the side of the mountain overlooking the city center. On the second morning we drove by again and noticed that the fire was spreading fast.  That evening as we drove home in the dark, we could see the actual fire blazing amongst the trees. On the third morning, the fire was clearly out of control and descending toward the city. At this time, we now saw multiple helicopters flying back and forth, each carrying a large container of water they would drop on the fire. Unfortunately their efforts seemed futile as the fire continued to spread out of control.

The situation looked hopeless until suddenly, on the afternoon of the third day, something happened.   A huge cloudy front moved in over the city, and within an hour an enormous downpour proceeded to soak the city. By evening, the forest fire was out. They were showers of blessings!

God loves to show His strength, and He loves to shower his blessings on his children. He doesn’t do it to brag; He does it to comfort us during difficult times.
