«The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up». 2 Peter 3:10

In a brief speech addressed to the members of the Climate Change Conference, held in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12, 2021, Kofe stated that rising sea levels have caused some parts of the island to erode, and that salt water penetration does not allow them to drink water from underground wells, so they depend on rain for their drinking water. Crop land has also been affected, which has caused food shortages in the nation. Kofe filmed the video in knee-deep water in an area that had previously been dry land. «We are sinking, but so is everyone else,» said Kofe.
«So is everyone else,» and therefore we should all follow the Tuvaluans’ example and prepare for the imminent disappearance of this planet. The apostle Peter presents it using these words: «The day of the Lord will come as’a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up» (2 Peter 3:10).
Yes, everything we know, love, and see will disappear. Will we also disappear? Peter reminds us: «Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells» (2 Peter 3:13).
The world will be destroyed; hence our hope does not lie on this earth, but on the promise of «new heavens and a new earth,» a promise that motivates us to live as individuals whose attention is focused beyond this earth. And when everything we know disappears, you and I will live on an earth in which «there will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared» (Revelation 21:4, GNT).
