As we celebrated that day on the Berlin Wall we watched something we thought we’d never see-people were freely moving back and forth over the wall between the east and the west sides of the city. All of sudden it hit us that if we climbed off the wall on the east side of the wall, we would officially be in Berlin. We never dreamed this would be possible! We convinced ourselves to climb down, and for an hour or so we walked around East Berlin. We didn’t want to stay too long, so we headed back to the wall so that we could safely get back to “our “side of the wall. When we got there, we were surprised to find that a large part of the crowd had already been cleared out by the police. Off the side we were excited to see that someone had taken a barricade and stood it up against the wall. I was the last one to go over, but as I started to climb a man suddenly ran up to the wall a few feet away from me, took out a metal stick, and started hitting the wall with it. I figured he was venting his anger at the wall, but a minute later, a few pieces of the wall fell to the ground. He dropped his stick, picked up the pieces, and ran off. It hit me-he wasn’t angry; he was collecting pieces of the east side of the Berlin Wall. Immediately, without thinking, I jumped down and did the same thing.
Anger clouds our minds. The man at the wall who I thought was angry was actually thinking very clearly. It turns out that the souvenir pieces of rocks we both got that day from the rare east side of the wall were very valuable.

Our verse today is a reminder that we must resist anger; it only causes harm.
