Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. GALATIANS 6:2, NKJV
I once drove around Europe with five guys in a rented car for two weeks. Since we were poor students, we rented the smallest car we could find and smashed ourselves into it. We had heard about a tiny little country in Europe between Switzerland and Austria called Liechtenstein. The country is only about four miles wide and about fifteen miles long, and the capital is called Vaduz. When we arrived, it appeared that the majority of the country was on the side of a mountain. We first went straight to the capital, Vaduz. We heard stamps were collectable items here, so we went to the post office and bought some. We also heard there was a castle up on the mountainside. There were lots of winding switchbacks as we climbed higher. Eventually we made it to the castle, but then we kept driving higher in order to get a view of the castle from above. After a few minutes of driving downhill, we all started to smell something. Minutes later we realized that the smell was our brakes! We pulled over immediately and checked them out. With our small car, our extra weight, and the steep downhill ride, the brakes were overheating! None of us were mechanics, so we decided to let them cool off. The sun was starting to set, so we decided that we would just camp the night up there—it was a cold night! The next morning, we woke to a couple of inches of snow!
All this happened because we were too heavy for our car. Every day we each have burdens that weigh us down. Wouldn’t they be easier to carry if someone helped us? The Bible encourages us to help carry each other’s burdens. Sometimes you help others with troubles, other times they help you with yours. Go today and be ready to help someone in need; someday it will he you in need.
