THE BIG JUMP

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord have forsaken those who seek you. PSALM 9:10, NIV

I was once filming a video series that called for a bungee jump scene. I had never gone bungee jumping before, so I was excited for the new experience. Part of my job was to find locations to film our scenes, and it seemed as though most of the places that offered a bungee jump were either off a bridge or from a tall crane. For the video I knew the crane wouldn’t look very nice, so I looked around for a bridge over a nice canyon, I finally found a company that  hiked up to an abandoned bridge over a canyon in California for their bungee jumps, but shortly after, I stumbled upon another company in Northern California that sounded even better! I called them and made all the arrangements.

The first half of our hike was mostly uphill on a well-worn path, but soon our guide took us completely off the path and even deeper into the forest. Soon we arrived at a tall grove of redwood trees. Next, I put on my harness while the guide prepared jumar gear for me.  Jumar gear is used when you want to just climb up a rope. The first order of business was for me to climb up a rope almost two hundred feet to the top a of a redwood tree. Once at the top there was a taut steel cable spanning between the tree and another tree next to it, plus another rope about five feet above the cable to hang on t. the bungee cord was attached to me, and my guide told me to move out to the middle of the cable between the two trees and jump. I exactly as he said.

My trip to redwoods would have been useless if I had not been willing to trust the guide and jump out of the tree. There are times when God asks us to do something that doesn’t make sense. Perhaps He is testing us to see if we are willing to trust Him in all things even if they don’t make sense at the time.

That is trust.   Will you trust God today?
