There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. GALATIANS 3:28
As a fan of soccer, I was excited to learn that the 1999 Women’s World Cup would be played in the United States. I was even more excited when I found out the some of the matches would be played in Chicago, only two hours away from my home. We got a group of friends together and made plans to go, counting down the days till the game. We packed a lunch and did our best to find red, white, and blue clothing to wear. We drove in two cars to Chicago; we parked, and made it to our seats. We were ready! We were excited!
Two great things were about to happened before our eyes, first of all, not only were we going to be able to experience a match, we were going to able to experience a match, we were going to experience two matches! It turned out that on this particular day in Chicago there would be a double header! Second, we were thrilled to find out hat the first game would be between Brazil and Italy and the second game would be between United States and Nigeria! It took several hours to make it through both games, but we had a wonderful time being there with a group of friends and cheering on the U.S. women’s soccer team that represented our country. We also thoroughly enjoyed watching Brazil play soccer because it is obvious that they believe soccer is, as it is called around the world, “The Beautiful Game.” Their footwork was amazing and their passing was sharp. These women were good!
There are many cultures in the world where women are not allowed to do certain things or where they’re mistreated. If you are a girl, I’m here to tell you that God can use you to do amazing things. If you are a boy, I’m here to tell you that girls can be incredibly talented and that you need to always treat girls with respect. Remember, we’re all children of God.
