SALVATION

«And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:28).

Researchers from Cardiff University (UK) and the University of Notre Dame (USA) evaluated the connections between marital conflict and children’s emotional security within one hundred eighty families whose children were between eleven and twelve years old. The study showed that children’s emotional security was significantly affected by interparental conflict and could be associated with symptoms of psychological anguish that would last throughout time. Later studies add that the problems related to the lack of emotional security experienced in childhood generally worsen during adolescence. Even if these studies do not determine which protective factors would prevent the development of negative consequences, it is clear that emotional security is essential to the healthy development of a human being.

From a spiritual point of view, we could say that the assurance of salvation has a central place in the development of every Christian. In order to reassure His beloved ones, Christ demonstrates His immense love by giving His life for the sinner as recorded in the Scriptures. Christ’s incomparable love, revealed in His life and in His death, guarantees salvation to everyone who believes. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who gave His life for His sheep said, «And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand» (John 10:28).

Nevertheless, «we are never to rest in a satisfied condition, and cease to make advancement, saying, ‘I am saved.’ When this idea is entertained, the motives for watchfulness, for prayers, for earnest endeavor to press onward to higher attainments, cease to exist. No sanctified tongue will be found uttering these words till Christ shall come, and we enter in through the gates into the city of God. Then, with the utmost propriety, we may give glory to God and to the Lamb for eternal deliverance. As long as man is full of weakness—for of himself he cannot save his soul—he should never dare to say, ‘I am saved.’ » (Selected Messages, Book l, ch. 47,. 314). «Our only safety is in constant distrust of self, and dependence on Christ.» Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 155).

Because healthy development is possible as long as there is safety, we encourage you to seek the assurance of salvation of Christ.
