THE ADVANTAGES OF FEARING GOD

“There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Romans 3:18).

A deadly virus has spread across the world during the last few years. There have been great hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, massacres, terrorist attacks, and many other disasters. Is there a relationship between the fear of God and human conduct? 1s there a difference in how those who fear God respond to tragedies and those who don’t? COVID-19 showed to those who honor God how useless weapons are, how weak power is, how riches cannot save us, and how important God is. In several places, pastors called for repentance, and more people were baptized during the Pandemic than the year before. In many countries of the world, tithes and offerings increased during the pandemic, even though thousands of people were unemployed. Flood waters were used for baptisms. Churches left their buildings and went out to serve the needy. Yes, the fear of God influences our reactions to tragedy.

In Romans 3, Paul mentions the disadvantages of not fearing God: unbelief, lack of faith, lies, falsehood, infidelity, cursing, wrong feelings, general corruption, lack of spiritual interest, and indifference toward knowing God. Where there is no respect and reverence for God’s character, and He is not honored, evil has no limits. The enemy takes possession of people, and he enjoys destroying the human race.

If the lack of the fear of God releases moral recklessness, what are the advantages of fearing God? First of all, fearing God makes you  wise: ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Psalm 111: l0). If you want to think wisely and make right decision, reverence God. Secondly, the fear of God gives hope and security. Who does someone who doesn’t believe in or fear God go to when they are anguished, what is their hope when a loved one dies? ‘Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). In third place, the fear of God produces joy. Fear steals your pleasure, joy, and happiness. ‘Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

Wisdom, confidence, and joy belong to you if you fear God.
