STUCK IN HUNGARY

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 JOHN 2:1, NKJV

In yesterday’s devotion, I shared about our little run-in with the Turkish soldiers. Something else happened that same day in Hungary. We were very excited that we were visiting Hungary, but the problem would be in leaving Hungary. You see, that same day, one of the guys traveling in our group had lost his little traveling belt pack. Inside was his U.S. passport, his visa to enter and exit Hungary, all his money, and his camera. This was not good. Being in a communist country without any documentation was a very bad situation to be in. He would not be allowed to leave the country without an exit visa, and you had to have a passport to have an exit visa. He had neither. What would we do?

We went directly to the U.S. Embassy in Budapest and talked to someone who helped us. It turns out that they had a process where our friend could get a new passport in one day. Once we had that, we spent the following day getting a new exit visa from Hungary so that we could leave. During this time, our friend completely depended on the other four of us traveling with him. Without us he had nothing.

No money, no documentation, nothing. Of course, we all pitched in and covered his costs for the rest of the trip. We even shared our pictures with him. It felt good to know that we had an advocate at the embassy when we so into trouble. The employee worked to get us out of the mess we were in. An advocate is someone who stands up and defends us and pleads on our behalf. My friend was also grateful we were there to be his advocates too. When we sinned, Jesus stepped up as our Advocate. Not only did He fight to defied us, He also died to save us.

JESUS is the ultimate Advocate.

Thank HIM today!
