SHOULD I GET ANGRY?

Family

«Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath* (Ephesians 4:26)

Be angry.» It seems that the apostle Paul is inviting the faithful Christians to get angry but within limits. Stephen used this verse to yell at his wife when she did something he did not approve of. On one occasion, a close friend told him:  «Stephen, it’s not right for you to be so angry at your wife.”  And he immediately answered:

«But the apostle Paul says to the Ephesians: ‘Get angry, and do not sin.’ So, I’m not sinning, because I am right and she is the one who provokes and annoys me.”

«We have to be careful about how we interpret this passage as a license to freely use anger. Let us not forget that a few verses further on, the same inspiration offers a list of worldly traits, among which we find precisely anger, hate, and quarreling (Eph 514:31). We should also remember the numerous passages where hate and anger are condemned (Prov. 15:18; 17:14; Ps. 37:8; James 1:20), and the countless verses where the virtues of pleasant words are exalted (Prov. 15: l, 23; 16:22,23.

The majority of theologians understand that this indignation refers to the anger toward sin, injustice, immorality, falsehood . . . Paul does not want Christians to use anger against their spouse, son, neighbor, friend, or brother but against evil, as Augustine of Hippo said, Cum dilectione hominum et odio vitiorum (Love the sinner, hate the sin).

Anger is a negative emotion that causes sweating, high blood pressure, increase in the volume of one’s voice, piercing stares, trembling of the hands, tension, use of offensive word and verbal or physical abuse. These symptoms are not good for the physical or moral health and the improvement with of interpersonal your temper, relationships. Start a change today.

If you have the tendency to shower others Remember that the solution to this problem lies in you and God. A deep-rooted irritable mood needs divine intervention. Faithfully place yourselves in God’s hands, knowing that with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Furthermore, you have to play your part by learning ways of controlling your words, keeping calm, using pleasant words and kind manners until they become a habit. This way you will do what the Lord asks you to: putting off all anger and all wrath (Col. 3:8).
