«SHOOT-IF YOU DARE!»

This court finds you guilty of spying and sentences you to death at dawn.» The judge’s gavel crashed onto the desk with a fearful crack.

The young man standing before him sighed. He’d done everything he could to prove his innocence, but the court wouldn’t listen. Born in England, the prisoner had traveled to the United States to gain citizenship there. He’d recently made the mistake of visiting Cuba, a country suspicious of anyone from the US.

Ambassadors from both sides of the Atlantic heard of his difficulties and did their best to intercede, but were ignored. When news of the verdict reached them, they panicked. An innocent man was about to die!

The eastern sky was aglow when the gates of the prison yard swung open, and guards marched the young man to a brick wall. Soldiers shouldering powerful weapons took up position and stood waiting for orders. Only a few moments left, the prisoner told himself.

Suddenly two riders charged in and leaped from their horses. In seconds they had wrapped something around the condemned man’s shoulders. Stepping back, they shouted, «Shoot—if you dare!»

The captain of the guard took one look and ordered his men to their barracks. Encircling the prisoner were the flags of Great Britain and the United States. The captain knew that if he shot through those flags, two very powerful nations would consider that an insult and declare war on Cuba.

Satan takes aim at you, then hesitates when he sees that you’re wrapped in the righteous robe of Jesus. «This person is mine,» Christ says. «Touch him, and you’ll have to fight Me!» Satan backs down every time.
