«l have declared my ways, and You answered me; teach me Your statutes. Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wondrous works» (Psalm 119:26, 27).
Enrique was shaving when I met him. He opened the door without worrying about the shaving cream that covered his face. He was very interested in the health books that I showed him but did not have money to buy them. When I wanted to pray, he would not let me. He said that his wife was the «religious,» one and that he did not want to know anything about it. However, as I did in all the homes, I left the missionary book When I was leaving, I saw that there was a large open Bible on a little table. I was on my way but mentioned it in passing: «How nice that you have a Bible! That Book saved my life. » I said goodbye without saying anything more.
As I was walking, I prayed and asked God to allow me to meet someone with whom to study His Word.
I had already walked several blocks when my cell phone rang. “Hello, you passed by my house a while ago,” I heard the voice say excitedly. (By that time of the day, I had already passed by several houses.) “You gave my husband a book with your phone number and told him that the Bible had saved your life. I started reading the book and saw that it deals with topics that interest me a lot and for which I have been looking for an answer for some time. I wanted to know if it would be possible to send someone to study the Bible with me.”
I could not believe it! It was Ana, the wife of the man who had had shaving cream on his face. I went to their home again to meet her, and she was waiting for me with the book underlined and marked with questions. We agreed to meet on Saturday afternoons to study more.
She was very curious to know why I had told her husband that the Bible had saved my life, so I had the opportunity of sharing my testimony with her.
We were able to do a couple of studies, and before I went back to my city, I stopped by to say goodbye. This time, Enrique joined the study and asked me to pray at the end. I gave them The Desire of Ages and The Great Controversy as a gift. They promised that they would read them, and a few days later, Enrique sent me a message that said, «Thank you for presenting the Bible to us. It is doing us a lot of good.»
There are many Enriques and Anas waiting for someone to arrive and interrupt their routines to introduce them to the Bible. Do not let anything stop you—not even shaving cream.
