Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done» (2 Chronicles 29:2).
I grew up with a great role model in my house—my dad. No, he wasn’t perfect, but he provided a beautiful reflection of God’s love to our growing family in so many ways.
Take Thin Mints, for instance. Thin Mints were chocolate covered peppermint candies we both liked very much. But with four kids in Christian schools all at the same time, Dad seldom had money to buy such luxuries. This left a lot of Thin Mint boxes on grocery store shelves and very few in our refrigerator.
Occasionally Dad would buy a small carton of the wonderful stuff and bring it home. As far as I can remember, no one else in the family liked them. They were our own special treat.
Here’s the neat part. After a meal my dad and I would head for the fridge, where he’d remove one Thin Mint from its box. Then I’d watch as he took a knife and cut the little round candy right down the middle—half for him, half for me. Then we’d stand there and eat our treat, rolling our eyes in ecstasy.
Dad loved Thin Mints as much as I did, but he always shared them with his young son. He wouldn’t think of enjoying one without me!
Family is more than ancestral trees and strange squiggles on DNA charts. It’s more than birth certificates and marriage licenses. Family means sharing everything. Even Thin Mints.
