SEND SOMEONE ELSE

«Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?» (Exodus 4:11).

Almost two years ago, I had the opportunity to start working for London Adventist Radio. At first, frankly, I was paralyzed with fear. Although I speak fluent English, I have a foreign accent. I was convinced that people would hate my voice and my radio show. For several months, I struggled to make the decision because I thought I wasn’t the right person. finally, after crying and praying a lot, I took the job and began a new chapter of my life.

God called Moses, but, convinced that he was not the right person for that job, he replied, «O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue» (Exodus 4:10). How many times do we look at ourselves and think we are not capable, even when God Himself is calling us! We see everything with human eyes and pray to God: «Please send another woman who is more capable than me.»

However, God does not need perfect women or men; He needs willing people.

When I started receiving feedback from the radio listeners, I understood, in part, why God had called me. London is a cosmopolitan city with many foreigners from all over the world. For them, my accent was familiar and even easier to understand than the native English accent. God is using for His glory what I thought would disqualify me from serving. My imperfect voice is more powerful than my perfect silence.

Author Eleonore van Haaften, in Living in Freedom, described Moses’s growth with the following words: «In the first forty years of his life (in his family home and then in Pharaoh’s court) he learned to be someone; in the next forty years in the wilderness, from his flight to Midian to his calling by God, he learned to be no one; and in the forty years from the departure of the people from Egypt to his death, he learned who God was.»

When fear tries to rob you of your future, ask God to show you who He is through your insecurities.

Dear Lord, you never reject those who come to You regardless of how weak they may be. Here am I; send me.
