Daily Devotions for Juniors 2020

SECRET DATE

Q: How come God didn’t tell us the day or hour of • Jesus’ coming?

A: Maybe because of people like me (Pat)! Here’s what I mean. As a writer I constantly have deadlines to meet. But sometimes I wait until the last minute to get my assignments done. Even though I get things in on time, and the people I write for seem to like my work, I could probably save myself a lot of headaches and stress by starting on my projects earlier!

Consider this: What if we knew the exact time Jesus would return? Do you think we’d be busy every minute doing the work He has asked us to do (such as helping people and telling others about Jesus), knowing that we have some extra time to get ready? Probably not. Most likely we’d say, «We’ve got plenty of time. Just before Jesus comes back, we’ll get our work done.»

But think of all the people who might miss out on hearing the good news of the gospel if we take that attitude! But that’s not all. We have no guarantee that we will be alive tomorrow. So let’s live and work as though Jesus will come at any moment!

We may not know exactly when Jesus will return, but all we have to do is look around. The signs everywhere are telling us that the time is very near (see Matthew 24). I want to be ready. I hope you do too!
