«And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain for the former things have passed away» (Revelation 21:4).
GRIEF IS a constant in this sinful world in which we live. Faced with a loss, we enter a dark tunnel of pain and suffering, almost impossible to avoid. The breakdown of a relationship, the loss of health, or the death of a loved one are devastating experiences that, simply because of the fact that we are alive, we will experience to a greater or lesser extent. All of this is the result of sm. We have not been created for pain and suffering; we have been created to be happy.
When we enter a stage of mourning because of a harsh event in life, we are engulfed by a cloud of hopelessness and desolation; we are assailed by emotions and feelings that we don’t know what to do With. We even develop symptoms of physical illness and blame God for the suffering that overwhelms us.
As long as we are on a pilgrimage through this world, we must know rationally that grief will be part of our existence sooner or later. Now, we must also know rationally that, on this journey, we are not alone. God is grieved by our pain and IS willing to be our Comforter through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. In this process, as a child who has absolute trust in their parents, we must, even if with uncertainty at first, hold on to God’s hand until the light of hope shines again on our path.
When facing grief, it would be good if you always kept mind the following concepts:
- Overcoming suffering is not synonymous with forgetting what has happened to us.
- Time will show you the lesson God wants to teach you through this experience.
- Your wounded heart will heal and you will experience joy again• Losses are not always a consequence of our actions, let alone a punishment from God.
If today your heart is grieving, you have in God the best ally, companion, and comforter. Hold on to His promises, even if the present hurts and the future seems uncertain. He knows what awaits you on the other side of the pain.
«Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning» (Psalm 30:5).
