«The lazy man says, «There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!» (Proverbs 22:13).
David, the boy who defeated giant Goliath, developed unusual virtues while taking care of sheep: bravery, boldness and will-power. An extraordinary combination. David was sensitive but strong and brave, an adolescent who dared fight lions and bears to defend the flock he patiently and lovingly cared for (1 Samuel 17:34-36). In the fields, his fingers strummed the strings of his small harp; in the background the sheep, which looked like clouds walking on the ground, could be heard bleating. Suddenly, David would stop to listen to some strange sound and seemed attentive. At a distance, very close to some defenseless and distracted sheep, a bear waited for the best time to pounce on his prey. So, David would prepare to attack the predator before it could attack the sheep. He would drop the harp, lift his eyes to heaven and cry out for God to help him in his feat. On several occasions he drove the beasts from his flocks. The funny thing is his father and his brothers didn’t believe his stories about how he had defeated bears and lions while defending the sheep. To them, David was still too young. But that didn’t affect him; he knew for sure he was fit to be a champion. God complemented his strength and he provided the right attitude.
But the book of Proverbs mentions there are young people who seem to be programmed to fail, who fall in defeat before the referee blows the starting whistle, convinced of their dismal destiny. It’s very comfortable to take on that kind of attitude because it frees you from having to cry out to God asking for His help, it helps you avoid having to make extreme efforts to face your challenges, it excuses you from moving forward on the treacherous road of the narrow way. les true. les easier to yield to comfortable environments than to attempt new conquests. That’s how a losing attitude that invades the life of millions of young people is formed and it programs them for defeat in various aspects of life.
David refused to be a loser. He faced great challenges, which prepared him for his life’s great challenge: giant Goliath. His life was never the same after that victory.
Ask the Lord to help you overcome your fears and give you courage to face your challenges.
