“Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies…
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness»
(Proverbs 31: 10, 26).
TODAY’S TEXT pays tribute to the woman who speaks wisely. Have you ever heard the saying «You are prettier when you are quiet?» I think this is an assertion contrary to the wise man’s statement, which invites a woman to speak and teach through what she says. However, we should be careful with the use we make of this wonderful gift. The sacred text says, «For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned» (Matthew 12:37). Each word implies a message for those who say it and those who receive it. Our concern should be to confess God every time we speak.
Lies, gossip and slander will bring God’s judgment down on us. On the other hand, words of truth, seasoned with salt and fitly spoken at the right time, in the right place and in the right way, are a source of blessing.
Our daily prayer should include asking God that, when we speak, our words may honor the Lord and bring blessing to those who hear them. How carelessly some ladies who consider themselves to be modem, when speaking, not only offend God and others, but also do so in detriment of language.
Let us be «ladies of God,» let us speak properly, using language correctly, not tainting its essence by using vulgar and unrefined «swearwords. » When we do so, God is dishonored and our origin as daughters of God is questioned by those who hear us. Gods calling is, «He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile» (1 Peter 3:10).
It’s worthwhile for your daily prayer to include this matter that is so vital, because it reveals who you are and how you are. If you are «loose» with words, ask the Lord to refrain your mouth. If in the heat of an argument you utter insults, beg that when your lips open they will be a source of life and not death. With every word you say, praise, praise and praise God and life! Then your spirit will be lifted by the joy of being a mediator between God and the world, always bearing the good news of salvation.
