«Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies . . .
She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants» (Proverbs 31: 10, 15).
GETTING UP before dawn is a healthy habit that has been lost in a society that turns nighttime into daytime and vice versa. Those who have had the chance to see the dawn, know that at that time, the freshness of the morning can be breathed in, the sounds of nature awakening delight the egrs and sublime images of daybreak gratify the eyes.
I imagine that the dawn referred to in today’s text not only applies to a literal dawn, but also to that ability the virtuous wife has to stay ahead of events, especially those that could endanger her safety and that of her loved ones. Dawn is that staying ahead of the needs that could come up during the day. It’s one of the characteristics of a Christian woman.
I am sure that, if you are a mother, you are the first one to get up in the morning to start the day’s activities, providing attention, care and food for your family. These simple actions are extraordinarily important and will have permanent and eternal results.
Jesus had the habit of waking up before dawn to communicate with His Father and through it find physical, spiritual and emotional strength to fulfill His earthly mission. If we follow His example, we will surely be clothed in grace and strength to carry out the great responsibility of raising children for Heaven, and saving our marriage relationship. «Whatever spiritual blessing we need, it’s our privilege to claim through Jesus. We may tell the Lord, with the simplicity of a child, exactly what we need. We may state to Him our temporal matters, asking Him for bread and raiment as well as for the bread of life and the robe of Christ’s righteousness» (Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, ch. 6, p. 133). What better time than daybreak to enjoy that privilege.
The freshness of the morning, bird songs and nature wakening are the perfect setting to create that space of peace, serenity and calmness that will allow you to connect with God without interruptions or hurry.
The Christian woman, the one who is worth more than rubies, does not miss out on the privileges of being active before dawn.
