ANXIETY
«O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You» (Psalm 84: 1 2)
Have you ever found yourself penniless ? Yes, without money for the bus, for rent or shopping. Well, that time I (L) had no money. Our savings had been depleted and, even though we were looking for work, we could one find some jobs that required working on the Sabbath, so we could not take them. For the last two weeks, everything that we had left was less than half a euro which was not enough for even a piece of bread.
For the past few days, we only ate oats for breakfast and pasta for lunch. We had finished the tomatoes, zucchini, peppers and eggplants from our garden, and the only thing left was a little basil which we used with our pasta. None of these worried me, but the fact that my children were eating little fruit and no vegetables, caused me certain unease. So I took my children to the doctor (which was free for us) to examine them. As we had more than one hour until our appointment, we decided to have a walk in the central square of Tivoli, a beautiful and ancient city, situated at about 25 km away from Rome, where the former Roman emperors used to spend their summer. Sitting under an immense pine in the square while my kids were playing, I talked to God. I told Him: «Lord, I give you thanks because I don’t need anything to be happy. I don’t need material things because I am happy in Your company. However, there is something that worries me: my children are not well fed, they lack fruit and vegetables from their diet. If you think this is right, I will also be fine with it. I only ask you to help me take care of their health.»
While we were still praying, about 50 children came and invaded the square. They took over the swings and games, pushing the little ones away. They played for a little while, and as quickly as they arrived, they all went away. Taking the swing back, my daughter saw something shining in the sand. It was a 1€ coin. But not only one: altogether, she and her brother found four Euros and fifty cents. We put aside fifty cents for the Lord, and with the remaining ones, we went to a grocery store nearby. Unbelievably, even if it was a little amount, the things we bought were enough for us to enjoy an abundance of fruit and vegetables for two weeks.
God gave us indisputable proof of His care. We must remember that, both in happy and in difficult times, God is always by our side. Let us recognize His kindness and praise Him joyfully. «O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!»
