«But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God» (John 1:12, NLT).
I remember reading the story of a refugee woman who escaped her country’s chaos with her three children. All of their belongings fit into a small backpack she carried on her back. While traveling on foot, at the mercy of smugglers, a man came and stole all their passports. If they could not prove their identity, they would not be able to cross the border. The mother prayed in desperation. Miraculously, they were able to recover their passports and safely reach their destination.
Satan uses the same techniques those smugglers used. He knows that if He can steal our identity, we will never reach our destination. However, the Bible is our passport and it emphatically states who we are: we are God’s daughters (see John 1:12). We were bought at a great price and we belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20). We are members of Christ’s body (1 Corinthians 12:27). We were chosen and adopted as God’s daughters (Ephesians 1:3—8). We were redeemed and all our sins were forgiven (Colossians 1:13, 14). We are free from all condemnation and nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans We are hidden with Christ in God (Colossians God will finish the work He began in us (Philippians 1:6). We are born of God and the enemy cannot touch us (1 John 5:18), We are a branch of Jesus Christ, the true vine, and His love flows through us (John 15:5). We were chosen to yield good fruits (John 15:16). We are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16). That’s our true identity! That’s what God says when He speaks of us. If we accept any other discourse, we are adopting a false identity.
In the first few pages of every passport, from every country, there’s a request, in the name of the nation’s government, to allow the bearer of the passport to pass freely and to be provided with all the assistance and protection necessary. My British passport makes that petition in the name of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth Il, of the United Kingdom. When we accept the identity God gives us, just as our passport requests, we receive access, assistance, and protection, in the name of the King of kings and Lord of lords. Don’t allow anyone to steal your identity!
Dear Lord, today I receive my identity.
I accept that I am who You say I am as the only truth.
I am Your beloved and chosen daughter. My life has meaning and purpose.
Nothing and no one can pull me away from Your hand.
