«And David said to his son Solomon, Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord» (1 Chronicles 28:20).
The time came for David to pass the kingdom to his son. He met with Solomon privately to turn the throne over to him. Then he called for an administrative meeting with all the principal leaders, the chiefs of divisions, chiefs of thousands and of hundred, the sons of the king, and the stewards of his household and possessions. bravest and most powerful officials (1 Chronicles 28:1) where to witness the succession. With humility, the elderly king explained that building the temple had been his desire, but not God’s desire for him. Do you have any plans that are not the plans of God? It’s time to do what David did: accept God’s plan for you over your own preferences.
«The plans for [the temple’s] construction were made by divine inspiration.»—The Great Controversy, ch. 1, p. 23. The details were described by the hand of God (verse 19). The text does not specify whether they were given in written form or whether God inspired David regarding the details.
Just as God had plans for His temple, He has specific plans for you and for your future. Decide today to follow His plans and renounce doing things your own way. Your success and victory will be assured.
The words given to Solomon are similar to the promise given to Joshua before he began to lead God’s people (see Joshua 1:5). Our part is to be of good courage, make an effort, not be afraid, and persevere. God promises He will accompany us: «I will not leave you nor forsake you.» Do your part, and God will do His (see Hebrews 13:5).
It does not matter if your burden is great, your suffering without comparison, or your circumstances unfavorable. Do your part. Do you have a new responsibility at work? Have there been sudden, unexpected, and unwanted changes in your life? Have you been diagnosed with an incurable illness? Have your children or grandchildren abandoned the faith? Do you have marital, work, or church conflicts? Have you suffered the loss of loved ones, and is loneliness overwhelming you? Are you going through unemployment, or have you lost a year at school? Be of good courage. Make an effort. Do not be afraid. Persevere.
Fear is paralyzing. The weight of a responsibility, its risks, and the pressure of the moment can paralyze you. The best cure for fear is to not focus on it. Stand up and take the first step. Don’t be discouraged, God will lead you.
