After year studying in France, my family decided to come over from the N United States and we would spend the last two weeks traveling around Europe. My parents and my sister flew in from California, and my brother and his wife flew in from Florida. The plan was to meet up in Paris and go from there together. Now, in 1990, communication was very different than today—there were no cell phones, no texting, there wasn’t even e-mail! You could either call on a wired telephone or write a letter. The challenging part of this whole plan was that my brother and his wife were going to be in Europe traveling on their own for a week before meeting up with us in Paris. My parents and sister planned to fly in a couple of days before to Geneva, Switzerland, hang out with me for a couple of days, and then we would take the train together up to Paris to meet my brother. Our plan was to meet on Monday morning in Paris, France, right in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral at 10:00 A.M. The tricky detail was that if anything went wrong with our plans to meet, there would be no other way to communicate with each other in order to arrange a new meeting time or place, and we’d miss traveling together. It was important that our plan work.
Monday came, and as I was traveling to Paris with my parents and sister, we encountered a delay! There was no way we would be in front of Notre Dame by 10:00 A.M. We were going to be about an hour or two late. We decided to go anyway. Would my brother and sister-in-law be there waiting for us still? Fortunately, they had decided to be patient and wait the extra time.
It’s hard to be patient sometimes. We get used to having what we want when we want it. If we don’t get it, we often get impatient. Pray today that GOD helps you to be a patient person. This is a quality that will make you a better person.
