«Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel» (Numbers 22:3).

Israel was camping on the fields of Moab. These plains had originally belonged to the Moabites and kept the original name when they were conquered by the Amorites. Israel probably reached this area at the end of the forty years of wandering. They stopped just outside Jericho, and they did not cross the Jordan River until Joshua, Moses’s successor, had taken over. Their arrival at Moab was not welcomed; to the contrary, the local inhabitants were full of fear, and they made several bad decisions.
When fear attacks you, you make hasty decisions that you will often regret later on. If you observe your past, you will see that most of your wrong decisions were made because of fear. You will also notice that these decisions were not consulted with God.
Moab had been informed that the Israelites had conquered the Amorite kings Sehon and Og, the most powerful Canaanite governors of the time, but they didn’t know that God had given Israel the order not to bother the Moabites. Their fear, however, had been previously prophesied, «Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling will take hold of them; all the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away» (Exodus 15:15). In the same way, your own success over your enemies is prophesied, «A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you» (Psalm 91:7).
Just like the Israelites, we too are waiting in front of the Jordan for our great leader, Jesus, to give the order to march into the heavenly Promised Land. Go forward in the name of Jesus, for your enemies will tremble when they see how God has directed your life.
Pray to God asking for courage and trust to finish the little that is left in our race as Christians, and to be counted among those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
