IN HER HAND, The little girl held a thin string tied to a balloon. At times it seemed the wind would rip it from her fingers. She looked up at the sky and saw her beautiful balloon floating in the air, while her mother and brothers told her, “Open your hand, and let it go!”.
Doubt was reflected on her face. She wanted to keep it, but she also wanted to let it go and see it drift away among the clouds until it went out of sight.
Finally, and with a great sigh that simultaneously showed great determination, she opened her little hand and the yellow balloon floated off little by little here and there, until it was lost among the clouds. Witnessing this experience made me reflect on the attitude we have as women to retain and nurture negative thoughts, bad memories, painful emotions, fears, sadness and anger.
Clinging to failed experiences, past mistakes, fears (founded or unfounded), accumulated feelings of anger and rage, and harm others have inflicted on us, may become a lethal excuse not to live fully in the present and to expect the worst in the future. Those internal threats are destructive fantasies God is willing to dispel from your mind if you decide to let them go. Just as the little girl in today’s story received instructions from her family to let go of her balloon, God begs you, “Open up! Let go of the tangled mess of negative emotions that prevent you from looking up!”
And to make the process of opening up and letting go easier for you, I have the following recommendations:
- Pray and tell God how you
- Accept the bad things that happened and leave them in God’s
- Experience your pain with Him and don’t torture yourself with the whip of guilt.
- Focus on opportunities offered in the present; take advantage of them, because they will have passed by tomorrow
- Enjoy life with Christ and your loved
