The God blessed them, and GOD said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” GENESIS 1:28, NKJV
I recently visited a coal mine in Wyoming. It was open coal mine. That means it opened on the surface, not underground in caves. It was fascinating to see how this company got coal out of the ground. Enormous excavating machines were used to dig the coal out of the ground; then huge hauling trucks were filled up, and the coal was dumped and crushed to the right size and loaded onto a long line of waiting train cars. The trains would then cart the cola away to be used around the country. This happens twenty four hours a day. There were several neat lookout points, and one of the highlights of our tour was to check out the huge hauling trucks closed up. They were colossal! The tires alone were ten feet tall and could carry almost three hundred tons of coat! I walked all the way around one truck in amazement. It was the size of a small house.
One of the fascinating things about the mine is what they do when a spot runs out of coal. They don’t just leave the massive hole there-they fill it back in with dirt. Next, they plant the original types of grasses and tress found in that area cross the new surface. During the tour we were shown huge fields. We were told that years ago those fields were deep mines, but now it looked much effort they made to return nature as close as possible to its original state after removing the valuable coal.
At creation, GOD gave humans dominion over our world. It doesn’t mean we are free to destroy it. We have been given power and control over it for our benefit. It would make sense to do our best to protect it. We should always do our best to properly manage the things that GOD has given us.
