«Meanwhile, Abner had consulted with the elders of Israel. ‘For some time now, ‘ he told them, ‘you have wanted to make David your king. Now is the time!’ » (2 Samuel 3:17, 18, NLT).
If we trust God’s timing, He will show us when the right time to act comes. David waited fifteen to twenty years before becoming king. However, when the appointed time came, God clearly let him know, telling him about it through the most unlikely person: Abner.
Abner had proclaimed Ishbosheth king over all the tribes of Israel (except for Judah). He was Ishbosheth’s war general and a powerful leader among those who were loyal to Saul’s household. However, at the appointed time, Abner had a great falling out with Ishbosheth and switched sides. Then, Abner set about convincing Israel’s elders that they should crown David king: «Now is the time! For the Lord has said, ‘l have chosen David to save my people Israel from the hands of the Philistines and from all their other enemies’ » (2 Samuel 3:18, NLT). Imagine the elders’ surprise when they heard those words coming from Abner!
We do not need to stress out trying to know exactly when God will keep His promises and plans for our lives. We just need to be faithful with the opportunities and tasks we have at hand today. When fruits ripen, they begin to fall due to their own weight. Circumstances themselves will show us it is time to harvest!
Joyce Meyer tells us that God makes things happen exactly at the right time. Your job is not to discover when, but to decide that you will not give up. The more you trust in Jesus, and keep your eyes on Him, the more life you will have. Trusting God brings life. Believing brings rest. So stop trying to solve it all and allow God to be God in your life. When the right time comes, even your enemies will notice!
God is faithful not only in His plans and His timing, but also in letting us know when we should act.
Lord, You are totally trustworthy! You not only have a perfect plan for my life, but You also let me know what I need to know at the right time. All I need to do is be faithful and keep the lines of communication open. Thank You because I do not need to fret about the future!
