«Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your Increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine» (Proverbs 3:9, 10).
WORK
Job was a man who was very rich and also extremely close to God. Is it possible to be quite prosperous financially and at the same time be a genuine believer? The Bible says it is. Job had land, cattle, servants and a nice family. He was a powerful and respected gentleman. However, neither money nor power possessed him. That’s why when he suddenly lost everything he exclaimed, «Naked J came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord» (Job 1:21).
The interesting thing about Job’s story is that you never hear him complain about everything he’s lost, but rather, his great doubt is in knowing whether he’s done something wrong that’s offended the heavenly Father. He doesn’t understand what’s happening, he only wants to hear his beloved God.
Does God care about money? The Bible says He’s the Owner of everything there is in this world, even gold and silver, so coveted by humans (Haggai 2:8). Then, if God is so rich, why doesn’t He fill us with riches and treasures so we can stop working and enjoy life? Do you think that would be better for us? Why does God want us to earn our living in an honorable way? What’s behind the use of money? The way you spend money shows what’s in your heart. Actually, the use of money is an element that reveals your character.
We’re in this world temporarily. We’re here to build a character that’s worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven. It’s the only thing we’ll take with us to the Heavenly Home. So every good thing we have, such as money that’s earned in an honest way, becomes a means to edify our character. The thing is that money is a means to honor God. Through it we can thank the heavenly Father for His deep love toward us and acknowledge His sovereignty in this world. When we show such confidence in the Lord, God promises we’ll receive a much greater blessing (Malachi 3:10).
Don’t allow yourself to be trapped by consumerism or the fever to get money. Honor Him with your possessions and He will acknowledge your loyalty!
