For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. EPHESIANS 2:8, 9, NKJV
The drive between Cairns and the Red Center of Australia took us two full days. During the first park of our long drive, we discovered that there were almost no towns along that stretch. We drove hundreds and hundreds of miles without seeing anything, except an occasional roadhouse. Roadhouses were the only place to stop during this long voyage. A roadhouse is like a rest area with a gas station, a restaurant, and a hotel with a few rooms. During one stretch of highway, we made the mistake of not stopping to fill up at the last roadhouse, and we were beginning to run out of gasoline. The next stop was a very long way ahead, and we were getting nervous that we wouldn’t make it. We prayed that day that we could make it to the next roadhouse. Being stranded in the middle of the desert didn’t sound very fun. We were completely isolated, and this was not a good place to run out of gas. The needle neared empty, and we kept on going; we had no choice. We soon discovered that there was a roadhouse ahead, but it was still sixty miles away. At this point, the gas light had already turned on, and we were becoming very concerned about our situation.
Again, we prayed for God to perform a miracle with our car. My wife and I knew that once the light came on, there’s usually around twenty to twenty-five more miles it will go. Soon the needle hit empty, but the car kept going for those sixty miles!
I know that GOD still performs miracles to this day, and our verse today reminds us that He does it to remind us that that there’s no point bragging about the things we can do. GOD proves to us repeatedly that we worship an all-powerful GOD.
