A few years ago while I was filming a video series, the script called for a handful of scenes to be shot in a cave. I decided to contact a few of the cave tour companies in Central California to see if they would allow us to film in their caves after hours. I found one near Placerville, California. Everything was set up for us to arrive and film in one month. A week before the shoot date, I called the manager again, and she assured me that everything was in order for our visit. The day finally came, and my film crew and I arrived at the cave about half an hour before our designated time.
We went into the office and asked to see the manager to let her know we were there.
I will never forget what happened next. She looked us in the eye and out of nowhere said, “Sorry, I change my mind; you can’t film here.” We all sat there in shock as she offered us no explanation why we would not be allowed to film there. As we left the office, we felt rejected, but I had reminded our crew several times during the project that the enemy was working hard to stop us from producing video for kids that give glory to God the Creator.
We also prayed and remembered that we had asked God that his will be done, not ours. The next day we continued filming in a different location, but by noon we encountered someone who offered to take us to go film that night in a wild cave nearby. In the end, we were able to shoot a caving scene that was much better that we had originally hoped. I’m so glad we trusted God, because He ended up having a better plan for the video! God has an answer to all your problems. But we must learn to be patient and trusting as we wait for His answer.
