MARRIED VERSUS SINGLE

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as if fitting in the Lord”

(Colossians 3:18).

Life isn’t more generous with married women that with the single ones. At some point in time, it was believed that women didn’t need academic education, because they only needed to “catch” a husband so he could finally support them for the rest of their life. However, women should seek marriage for superior reasons that the desire to be: provided for” by a husband. Women’s educations are crucial and essential.

It’s good to know that today’s young ladies have higher aspirations other than getting married just for financial support. Most women today can afford their own expenses, have the opportunity to pursue a career, and are able, at a certain age, to become independent from their parents to star living on their own self-sufficiently and independently, without the need for a man. They attain professional achievements and make friendship s so as not to live in loneliness, thus they counteract the argument of those who assert the women should get married in any way possible so as not feel alone. If day by day we see how many women’s lives contradict certain stereotypes of the past, it’s logical to star setting aside these stereotypes as false, don’t you think?

Dear friend, you need to know that loneliness is just a phantom that lingers around every human life, from which neither married nor single women are exempt. God is the only who can satisfy the need for companionship when a heart feels lonely. Many people feel lonely even when surrounded by others. Let’s take a hold of this promises of the Lord:

I am with you always, even to the end of age” Matthew 28:20.

Both being married and being single are blessings from God; neither status has a higher connotation that the other, and neither guarantees happiness nor unhappiness. What does guarantee our happiness is having daily moments of true intimacy with God.

I want to end today’s reflection by sharing a thought I found for this subject that we have been discussing: “A person’s physical presence isn’t enough to solve the problem of loneliness, because loneliness isn’t eliminated through people, but rather through people’s “understanding and love”, which can be attained without getting married.
