Love
Her name was originally Sarai, but then it changed to Sarah (princess) when she was promised to be the mother of nations and kings (Genesis 17:15, 16). Sarah accompanied Abraham on his journey from Ur of the Chaldeans to Haran and finally to the land of Canaan. She was sterile for most of her marriage, but one day the Lord promised her husband he would have descendants. Ten years later Sarah was still infertile. So, she gave Hagar to her husband as a concubine. Ishmael was born from that union. That situation caused a terrible crisis in their marriage. Several years after the original promise to Abraham, in a providential way, Sarah would conceive and give birth to Isaac.
Along with her husband, Sarah more than once had to move to strange lands and face various challenges. But she was a woman who knew how to change and adapt according to the circumstances that came up. She also knew how to fix her mistakes and tolerate her husband’s errors. Changing in life is essential to be able to enjoy the happy times God gives us. Theas particularly true regarding love. Love requires changing, adapting, cooperating, adjusting, harmonizing. From that point of view, love is reflected in the changes we implement in our lives.
That’s how out of love we change some habits that threaten to destroy the health of our home life; out of love we decide to improve our eating habits to prevent future illnesses; out of love we promise to be more careful when interacting with our workmates; and of course, out of love we accept to trust in the Word of God to produce the biggest changes in our lives: to change our hearts. That’s why, the prophet Ezekiel says, «Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh» (Ezekiel 36:25, 26).
Love challenges us to be different and offer the best of ourselves to those around us. That’s why if we truly want to love, is important to accept the offer God gives us: «Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new» (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Ask the Lord today to help you give the best of yourself to your loved ones.
