LOVE

Principles and Values

«The Lord has appeared from afar to me, saying: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with lovingkindness I have drawn you’ . (Jeremiah 3 1:3).

Understanding the nature of love has been the object of various investigations in the field of the psychology. Defining and describing this concept becomes more difficult as we distinguish different types of love such as romantic, parental, platonic, and selfless love. Nevertheless, in identifying the most universally recognized fundamental factor in a love relationship, there are clear evidences which shows that it is about «selflessly investing in the well-being of others.» That’s how the researchers Kevin E. Hegi and Raymond M. Bergner described love in their article «What Is Love?» which was published in The Journal of Social and Personal Relationships in London.

According to psychological studies, it is basically a principle of action that propels us to do good for others while expecting nothing in return. Love can be expressed in many ways. It is so simple that it can be seen in children and its power is so profound that it can transform people’s character, impulses, and feelings.

The Holy Scriptures affirm that «God is love» (l John 4:8) and He expressed it through the creation, salvation and seeking the well-being of His creatures. Our heavenly Father revealed His love through nature and through the most intimate relationships known between individuals. Even so, «these are the mere edges of His ways; and how small a whisper we hear of Him!» (Job 26:14).

God is love and He «demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us» (Rom. 5:8) because «greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends» (John 15:13). «The love of Christ which passes knowledge» (Eph. 3: 19) will last forever (l Cor. 13:8).

Living for the good of our fellow men and realizing acts of love and compassion are the principles that heaven cherishes the most. Greatness of character is measured by our moral worth in how we express love (The Desire of Ages, ch. 67. p. 613).

Today, show your love to Goa and your fellow men. Jesus said, «If you love Me, keep My commandments» (John 14: 15).  «This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you» (John 15:12). «Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God» (1 John 4:7).
