«¡If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!» (Proverbs 11:27, NLT).
One of the greatest secrets to succeeding in life is our attitude. What then is attitude? Attitude is the way in which we face the circumstances we have to go through, that is, our disposition. Actually, our attitude determines the focus of our life as well as our relationship with others.
I’ve known very capable and intelligent people with a pessimistic attitude, which ruined the best of their talents. That’s why having talents isn’t enough; a good attitude is necessary to face life’s adversities and challenges. Those who have the right attitude will enjoy life and make good use of the happy times God gives them, knowing that their whole life won’t always be easy, but that it’s important to have the best disposition to overcome setbacks.
As human beings, we need to change our attitude toward God. That’s what’s known as a conversion. Many times, we blame Him for our misfortunes and attribute the wrong responsibilities to Him. We even complain about every little thing we come across. But when we allow God to perform the miracle of conversion in our lives, we are given a new heart—a change of attitude toward God—which changes our worldview. Now we see things from a different perspective: God is no longer vengeful or authoritarian, but a loving Being who gave His Son to save us; adversities are opportunities, sorrows can turn into chances to affirm hope.
You don’t need the world to change in order to be happy. Your life should not depend on what others decide. That would be tantamount to handing them your freedom. What you need is a change of attitude. Enjoying life depends on the way you interpret reality. That’s why you are the one who should change. And only God can make that change, but He’ll never do so without your permission (Revelation 3:20). Invite Him today to change your attitudes, and not just to free you from troubles. There will probably be those who will make a face at you or try to hurt you, but they won’t hurt your feelings without your permission. Your attitude can change your difficulties into blessings.
You may think it’s easier said than done. Here’s the best part: God will do it for you! Allow Him to come into your heart and just like David, you can ask, «Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me» (Psalm 51:10).
