«And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness’ » (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Joni Eareckson Tada says that was the shortest prayer in her life and also the most powerful one. For three long years, she had been entertaining suicidal thoughts, due to an accident she had suffered when she was only seventeen. While diving in Chesapeake Bay, she hit her head with such force that she was left a quadriplegic for life.
Before her accident, Joni rode on horseback, went hiking, played tennis and swam. Everything changed on July 30, 1967. The energetic and independent girl had to depend on the help of others to perform even the tiniest movement. It was while she was in that state that Joni cried out, «God show me how to live!»
Did God answer her prayer? She says that things did not change from one day to another, but her way of seeing life did change: «I realized that I had to take responsibility and face reality head on. With Gods help, I would have to learn how to do the impossible—handle life in a wheelchair.”
And that’s what she did, and my how she did it! Leaning on God, and from her wheelchair, Joni founded «Joni and Friends,» an organization that has provided help to the disabled for over forty years. She has written several best sellers, and conducts a radio program with an audience that exceeds a million weekly listeners. She organizes spiritual retreats for the disabled and her program Wheels for the World has distributed thousands of wheelchairs to disabled people in developing countries.
Are you suffering from an illness or disability right now? Are bitterness and resentment corroding your soul with the «blows» life has dealt you? Then maybe it’s time to tell your heavenly Father: «My God, in spite of my limitations, help me to live in a way that will glorify Your name!»
Who knows? Maybe God wants you to do a special work for Him in your own home, in your neighborhood or in your church. Do it through His power and for His glory! Remember that He is the God of the impossible. Most of all, remember that when you are at your weakest, you are actually stronger, because the power of Christ works in you.
Dear heavenly Father, in spite of my limitations, please teach me today to live by the power of Christ. Help me to always remember that when I’m at my weakest, I am actually stronger because Your great power can work in me.
