WISDOM
The experience of people who appear in the Bible seems to illustrate the Word of God’s transforming power in human minds. It has to do with faith in action in the life of men and women who are similar to us: full of contradictions, errors, ambitions, reactions and passions. They aren’t half-gods, far flung from hue man tendencies. Some of the things they went through are similar to the ones happening daily these days. Therefore, if the power of faith managed to change their lives, then there’s hope for those of us who live in the 21st century.
During my childhood I learned to believe in a harsh, vengeful and complex God. I imagined the time when I would come before the Heavenly court and, of course, as a mischievous kid, I would be declared guilty. In fact, I got sick once and had a fever for hours; I still remember how delirious I was thinking that I would go before the Judge of the universe and, terrified, would cry out to the Lord for forgiveness.
Fortunately, the Lord touched my life and began to work on my conscience. My encounters with the heavenly Father are the most significant experiences I’ve had throughout my life. Slowly, I began discovering His character, His gospel, His love toward His children and, of course, His perspective on judgment. Faith began taking up space in the avenues of my mind. Then the time came to believe in a real, live, conscious, loving and just God.
I’m personally amazed at the mechanism God chose to redeem, transform and build human beings’ characters, that is, faith. It’s functioning actually turns into a deep and noticeable growth of conscience. We will perhaps learn about all of its dimensions in the kingdom of Heaven. Even so, in this world, the Lord has been good enough to show us the manifestations of faith in human attitudes and behavior, which make life much more attractive. And those manifestations bring about consequences of a Heavenly nature. That’s one of the most amazing things about faith! That’s why our loving God didn’t allow us to be born without a spiritual sense in our conscience and we were therefore born to believe.
We all have to learn to believe in a personal way. Parents show us the way, but we make the decision to believe. The adventure of faith is unique to each human being. Today you’ll have the opportunity to learn to believe. Accept the challenge!
