My wife and I decided to visit the Romantic Road in the south of Germany. Don’t worry, I won’t get all mushy on you-the road as is not actually romantic, either. The reason they call it the Romantic Road is that there is a string of cute, romantic towns and castles in this part of Germany. Today’s it’s well known as a tourist attraction. Fortunately, my wife and I went during the month of October when tourist is at a low. The other advantage for going in October was that this part of the country was in full autumn colors. It was beautiful! We joined the Romantic Road in a town called Dinkelsbuhl, a beautiful little town at about the midway point. From there we headed south. Each town was unique and had its own personality. Each village we visited felt as though we were entering the Middle Ages. Because of the historic value, these towns have made a lot of effort to preserve the old-world feeling. Some cities have a large cathedral in the center, with plazas and shops and cobblestones streets. Others have beautiful castle overlooking the town. Several towns have a large wall that surrounds the center of the town, which was put there to protect the villagers in the old days.
In some villages we had to park outside of the city walls and walk into visit and explore. I learned something as I visited those towns. People loved that their history was being visited and celebrated. People take pride in their history. One way to show love and kindness to people is by honoring and respecting their history. Since we all come from somewhere different, it’s important to be respectful of each other’s differences and backgrounds. I’m sure you’ve heard of the golden rule in the BIBLE. It’s a simple rule you can use to show respect to every single person around you. Read it; it’s verse for today.
