«So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it» (Isaiah 55:11).
I FOUND OUT about Nam Yong Han in 2012. At that time, he was a seventy-two-year old Korean farmer. What did Mr. Nam do that caused him to leave anonymity and become known in every continent? In 2003, while serving as a missionary in Beijing and after having been arrested for his faith, Nam deepened his spiritual life and became a devoted reader and transcriber of Scripture. To carry out that great labor, he dedicated some six hours a day to the task.
According to Nam, the practice of reading and transcribing God’s Word on a daily basis had a very positive impact in his life, because he defined himself as an «impetuous and aggressive» man; however, reading and writing the Holy Scriptures led him to acknowledge he was a sinner and feel that «his heart softened» and his «aggressive tendencies disappeared.» Because of his experience as a war veteran, Nam suffered from serious vision problems and severe pain in his wrist, arm, and shoulder; but after he began reading and transcribing the Scriptures, his physical health improved, so he decided to increase the number of hours he spent doing that noble and laborious job to ten hours a day.
Shouldn’t Nam’s experience become ours? Have we experienced the power of God’s Word in us? The same Word that transformed Mr. Nam’s character and brought physical and spiritual healing to him is within arm’s reach, beside our beds, on our bookshelves at home.
How much time do we spend studying and meditating on God’s book? Like Jeremiah, we should say, «Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart» (Jeremiah 15:16). Did you grasp the relationship between the prophet and the Word? Jeremiah made the Word his food, his strength, his source of joy.
Both the prophet Jeremiah and Nam Yong Han are witnesses of the fulfillment of this promise: «So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it» (Isaiah 55:1).
If God’s Word comes into us, our Lord will work wonderful miracles in our lives.
