Q: I am twelve years old. I am real good friends with a Mennonite girl. I feel that she is the right girl for me. But I don’t know if she feels that way toward me.
A: I would be cautious regarding a couple things. First of all, I am assuming you are not of the Mennonite faith. If this is true, I encourage you to be careful of getting into any serious long-term relationship with someone of another faith. Most serious interfaith relationships just don’t work. You certainly want to remain friends and should work on becoming better friends with her, but if you are talking about a lifelong commitment, that’s something different. I suggest extreme caution.
The second area of concern involves her being «the right girl.» I think there are many right girls for you. In time you will meet one of them and eventually wish to settle down. Don’t be in too big a hurry. Enjoy lots of friendships with lots of girls. Don’t rush it. One of the right ones will come along at the right time. But that’s much later. For now, keep getting to know lots of girls.
