IN SEARCH OF LIFE’S MEANING

“But indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence

of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord,

for whom I have suffered the loss of all things,

and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ»,

(Philippians 3:8).

I CAN IMAGINE the wise man letting out a heartrending cry, “Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There his discourse is a sign of a big existential void, and at the same time a search for meaning for his life. Another one of his expressions seems to indicate the same when he says, “A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of one’s birth” (Ecclesiastes 7:1).

Where could the meaning of life be found so it could be worth living and enjoyed to the fullest?

Every day, people seek an answer to this question and try to find it in different ways: by acquiring knowledge or recognition; bygettind material wealth; by trying to stay young and undergoing surgical procedures; or by trying out the widest range of pleasures the world offers as a source of happiness. In Spite of this, they lack meaning  in their lives. If you consider the statistics, you’ll see that the rate of suicide, the consumption of antidepressants, addiction and mental illness goes up every year.

It’s a sad, unavoidable avoidable truth for some; but for God’s children, it’s treatable and repairable.

When we develop a relationship with God, life becomes meaningful. It’s only within this relationship  with the Lord that, like the apostle Paul, we can say, “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ” (Philippians 3:7).

Why? Because depending on God leads us to discover the key to true happiness here on earth.

Discovering every day our sense of mission enriches our human existence. By taking part in a ministry of compassion on behalf of other women, we turn our gaze away from the “mirror” of pride and then, living becomes pure satisfaction for us. The pleasure of being useful lifts us up to a level of fulfillment that can only be experienced in Christ and with Christ.

If you think about it, nothing is as valuable to a Christian woman as the supreme benefit of knowing Christ. To gain Him is to gain absolutely everything.
