During a video shoot, we drove to a wonderful national park in Utah called Bruce Canyon. It was the first time I had been there, so we drove around the rim looking at the various overlooks, after a while we found an overlook we wanted explore. We parked and geared up and walked along the rim till we found the trailhead that would lead us down into these areas of erosion. The odd-looking erode rocks are called hoodoos, which were formed from erosion caused by water. As we started making our way down we were amazed by the red, orange, and white colors of the rocks. Little by little we made our way down that day without realizing how high in elevation we had actually started from. The rim there was almost nine thousand feet above sea level!
We went down hundreds of feet in elevation till we were surrounded by the unusual hoodoos. Soon we were on our way back up to the car. The day was ending, so our next task was to drive back out of the park to the place where we had left our RV to stay the night. We were tired after a long day of hiking, so I was ready to hit the bed. Unfortunately, the night did not go very well. The heater in our RV wasn’t working, but we decided to sleep just outside the park anyways, even thought we were at more than eight thousands feet above sea level. This turned out to be a very bad decision as the temperatures at that elevation at night were still in the teens. We survived the rough night but regretted our decision to stay there.
We all make mistakes in life, but God does not want us to dwell in the past. Some people have a hard time letting go of past mistakes. We should learn from our mistakes and then look ahead to the future, applying what we’ve learned while forgetting the bad things from our past.
