POWER OF MUSIC
“Because he says in the Scriptures: ‘At the right moment I listened to you; on the day of salvation I helped you. ‘ And now is the right time. Now is the day of salvation! » (Gal. 6: 2, DHH).
Guillermo Miller was born in 1782 in Massachusetts, United States. He grew up in a Christian home and, in his youth, was a justice of the peace and a soldier. At age 34, the Holy Spirit impressed his heart to make him aware of his sinful condition. However, when he returned to his old beliefs, he did not find the assurance of eternal life and the future looked dark. The trial seemed like a terrifying moment and I didn’t quite understand what would happen.
He began attending church with his family, as did all the respectable families of that time, and he volunteered to read the sermons.
They began to trap him and the idea of a loving and compassionate Savior began to be born in his heart. As he read the Bible, he discovered that it gave evidence of that Savior he so badly needed.
He was surprised to find that it was a book that contained principles adaptable to the needs of the fallen world, and that made him admit that the Scriptures were really a divine revelation. In them he found a friend Jesus, who satisfied and calmed him.
You surely know that it was his diligent study, especially of the book of Daniel, that led him to the conclusion that the earth would be purified in the spring of 1844 with the second coming of Christ. He felt compelled to tell what he had discovered and the doors were opening for him to preach everywhere.
After the great disappointment, Miller did not stop studying the Bible or believing in God. Shortly after that sad day for the pioneers of our church, he wrote:
“Although I was snapped twice, I am not yet dejected or discouraged…
I have put my mind in another time, and here I decide to stay until God gives me more light, and that is today, it is today, and it is today, until he returns. … «
There are several beautiful versions of this hymn, entitled «I have fixed my mind» or «In another time more.
«We can make him our prayer today, thank God for his Word, for the light we have received and for the gift of salvation. And, without getting discouraged, we can put our mind in an afterlife ahead.
