«I AM WITH YOU»

«Fear not, for I am with you» (Isaiah 41 : 10).

DON’T KNOW IF IT’S THE PROMISE that’s most repeated in the Bible, but «I am with you» is, in my opinion, the most beautiful promise. Why? Simply because I have nothing to fear, not even when I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, because I know that the Lord is with me.

«I am with you.» Why does this promise speak so directly to my heart, filling me with trust and security? A story told by Jamie Buckingham illustrates it well. He recounts that one night he and his wife Jackie went to dinner with friends. They left their two youngest children at home alone: Tim, 17; and Sandy, 14. If you have teenage children, you know quite well the type of mischief they can get into when they are left alone at home.

At around ten o’clock, Buckingham got a call from his daughter Sandy who was yelling for them to return home. What had happened? When they got home, they found Sandy sitting on a couch, petrified, with a knife in her hand. When she calmed down, the girl explained that while watching TV, she thought she had seen a ghost through the window She turned on all the lights and, as fast as she could, she closed all the doors, but then on one of the windows she saw a message that said, «I’m going to get you!» So she panicked.

Figuring out «the cause» of what had happened, Buckingham left the house in search of Tim. He found him, crouched down behind a hedge, doubled over with laughter. After giving him a good talking to, the two parents proceeded to try to calm Sandy down. Finally, they managed to somewhat calm her down. Sandy couldn’t sleep that night. They explained to her that it had all been a prank by her brother, had seen was the movement of a bed sheet.

They finally got Sandy to go to bed alone in her room, but she didn’t want them to turn the lights off. Despite their reasoning, she insisted they leave the lights on. The Buckingham had an idea. After turning off the lights, he lay next to Sandy. Within seconds she was sound asleep.

Was the light really what Sandy needed? Or rather the security of having her father by her side?

When in your pilgrimage through this life you feel that the darkness of discouragement surrounds you, when doubt assails you and you fall prey to anguish, remember that God is with you in moments such as these. This means that no matter how difficult your situation may be, your heavenly Father will be your light and your safety.
With Him by your side, what more could you need?

Thank You, Lord for always being by my side. Always! I can’t thank You enough for this great blessing.
