I know your deeds, that you are neither cold not hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth. REVELATION 3:15, 16, NIV
Driving through Wyoming is pretty fun; every part of the state has something new and exciting to discover. In the middle of the state, I found myself driving into a city called Thermopolis. The name of this city is quite unusual, but the name hints at what is going on in this small town. The name is made up of “term,” which means “hot,” and “polis,” which means “city.” Hot city. The town claims to be the home of the largest hot springs in the world. I drove into a part of the town that has been set aside to preserve some of these interesting features.
First, I visited a place called Big Spring, where hundreds of gallons of hot water come out every hour. As I stood at the edge of the spring and looked down, I notice that the water coming up looked super clean but also super hot. I read it was coming out at a constant 135 degrees Fahrenheit. I definitely did not want to fall in! I followed the stream of the hot water downstream, and it led to a series of minerals platforms created from the flowing mineral hot springs. Around the corner I found a series of boardwalks built on top of the mineral terraces. Nearby I was an unusual dome-shaped building; the sign said it was hot-spring baths that were open to the public. I put my swimsuit and went to check it out. Wow, it was hot!
I reflected on the fact that the water was heated up a mile or two below the surface on the earth. Fortunately, the people running the place cooled the water down to 104 degrees so I could get in!
THE BIBLE is clear that God wants us to be hot for Him. It’s not good enough to be lukewarm, because lukewarm is half cold and halt hot. Our verse today is a blunt reminder that lukewarm is not good enough.
Choose to be completely hot for God Today!
