But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. PHILIPPIANS 3:20, NIV
After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Fidel Castro became the new president of Cuba. One of his famous partners in the revolution, Ernesto “Che” Guevara, became the president of the National Bank of Cuba. At this time, my father was an employee of the church in Cuba, and one of his responsibilities was to take a group of colporteurs from Cuba to the neighboring island of Puerto Rico for event. To do so, my father needed to go to the National Bank of Cuba and ask for permission to take money for this trip. Arriving at the bank, my father was surprised to learn that he needed to make this request in person-to Che himself. As they chatted about the trip, their conversation included Che’s appreciation of my father’s work with the youth of Cuba.
My father carrier a journal with him that day, and at the end of the meeting he asked Che to sign his journal. Instead, Che took the journal and wrote several sentences of encouragement to the youth who were embarking on this trip. Che Guevara left Cuba shortly after, but a few years later he was killed in Bolivia. During my several trips to Cuba, I noticed that images of Che were seen all over the place. They were on t-shirts, mugs, paintings and all sorts of souvenirs. The interesting thing is that he was not even from Cuba; he was from Argentina.
Did you know Satan works hard to divided people by color, by country, by beliefs and any other thing he can use to make us feel threatened by each other?
The Bible reminds us that we are all created by God and that our citizenship is in heaven. Don’t let Satan deceive you into missing out what God has in store for you. It doesn’t matter what country you are from; you are a child of God!
