HE!

«For this season I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed end am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day» (2 Timothy 1: 12).

IF FOR SOME REASON you were to forget everything you have read in the Bible except one verse, what verse would it be? It would most likely be John 3:16. But something different happened many years ago, according to the following account told by author Samuel D. Gordon.

It’s the story of a Christian lady who had managed to memorize many verses from the Bible, but she began to forget them as she got older. The time came when she had forgotten all of them except for one verse: “For this reason I also surfer these things; nevertheless 1 am not ashamed, for 1 know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day» (2 Timothy 1:12).

In time, the old lady abo began to forget that passage except for the last pan: “He is able to keep what 1 have committed to Him until that Day.” As the story goes, when she was on her deathbed, the old lady could no longer say any words. She could only move her lips. When her relatives bent down to hear what she was trying to say, they heard her repeating the same word: “He, He, He… ”

As Samuel Gordon said, the old lady had forgotten everything she knew from the Bible except one word, but she had the whole Bible in that one word!‘

Very well said, Gordon! She had the whole Bible because Jesus Christ is the “star of Jacob» (Numbers 24:17), “chief among ten thousand» (Song of Solomon 5:10), “the Prince of peace” (Isaiah 9:6), “the Sun of Righteousness” (Malachi 4:2), “the Lamb of God» (John 1:29), “the bread of Life” (John 6:35), “the light of the world” (John 8:12), “the good shepherd’ (John 10:11), “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), “the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2), «the Lion of the tribe of Judah» (Revelation 5:5), “the Bright and Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16), “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16).

In other words, having Jesus means possessing everything, though we may lack everything! Ellen G. White was right when she stated that Jesus is “the dispeller of all our doubts, the earnest of all our hopes… He is the melody of our songs, the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. He is living water to the thirsty soul. He is our refuge in the storm. He is our righteousness, our sanctification, our redemption.»—Reflecting Christ, 1985, p. 21.

Praise be to God! Could we possibly ask for more?

Thank you, Father, because in Jesus «dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.» Above all, thank You because He is my blessed Saviour.
