Q: There’s this guy who is always bugging me and my best friend (we’re girls), even though we don’t want him around. What can we do?
A: Your problem sounds similar to that of a young woman we know who attends college. A certain guy would follow her around everywhere. When she came out of class or went to the cafeteria, he’d pop up out of nowhere. Even when she went to her dorm at night, he’d stand at the window and call out to her!
She was so upset that she was ready to drop out of school. But one day she decided to have a talk with him. She let him know that he seemed like a nice enough guy, but she didn’t want to be his girlfriend. It bugged her to have him follow her around. And guess what? The guy apologized and said he didn’t realize he was getting on her nerves. Since then she hasn’t had a problem with him.
It could be that the young man who’s «bugging» you just wants to be your friend. Why don’t you and your friend sit down and have a talk with him? Tell him in a nice way that you’re willing to be friends, but that you and your friend want time to talk about girl stuff without guys hanging around. Also, remember that the more attention you give him by harshly telling him to get lost, the more he’ll bug you. If he still keeps bothering you, just ignore him. After a while he’ll probably stop and go disturb somebody else
