GRATITUDE: A SOURCE OF WELL-BEING

 “And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us,

An offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma” (Ephesians 5”2).

GRATITUDE is a spiritual and moral value that’s being forgotten in society. It’s too bad, because it changes attitudes and moves hearts. The word “gratitude” is simply missing from many people’s vocabulary. They have forgotten how to say “Thank you” and for years or decades some people have not verbally expressed gratitude, and this is like living in dry land.

There are many excellent benefits from practicing gratitude every day.

Psychological studies highlight the following:

  • Gratitude provides physical well-being.
  • Gratitude helps us counteract negative emotions.
  • Gratitude is an attitude that draws us closer to God and one another.

Jesus was a grateful man. During His earthly ministry, there were times when He showed abounding gratitude in His heart; above all, gratitude toward His Heavenly Father. Let us look at some of the texts that say it. “And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples” (Matthew 15:36);

“Then they took away the stone from place where the dead nun was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, Father, I thank You that You have heard Me’ » (John 11:41); “Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying. ’Drink from it, all of you (Matthew 26:27).

A single word:  thanks. What if we make it a habit? Giving “thanks” generates contentment, which activates the pleasure neurotransmitters and makes you experience a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment; so when facing stressful, traumatic or adverse situations, we do it with great strength.

Although it might seem like a difficult thing to say, the apostle Paul’s exhortation has an essential truth: In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (! Thessalonians 5:18)/ The Bible, inspired by God Himself says,: In everything give thanks; “even if it seems difficult, it takes us focus on the good things that happen and see the bad things as a possible source of learning.

And so, because we learn, we can give thank even for the bad things that happen to us.

What if we begin this day by giving thanks for the night and day time, for the light and darkness, for the sweet and bitter things, and for all the colors rainbow that God used to paint our lives?
