«And the Lord said to Joshua: ‘See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor’ «(Joshua 6:2).
THE IMPOSING CIRCULAR MONUMENT of Stonehenge, in England, impresses the human senses. At dusk, when the sun lends its shadows, those gigantic edifices of stone are projected on the ground, resulting in a scene that is unique in all the world. The view is so special that it receives thousands of visitors every year. Many people are eager to enter «sacred» places to fill their inner emptiness and their insecurities. That is why they visit places such as Stonehenge; or consult astrologers; or believe in witchcraft, horoscopes, or tarot cards. They direct their steps, without realizing it, toward paths of deception and error as they seek a «refuge.» We can only find protection, victory, and safety in God. He surrounds us with a sacred circle that is His care and protection. He has always been looking after His children who trust in Him and are obedient. We see it over and over in the Bible, but there is a passage in particular that I want to bring to your memory this morning. It is chapter 6 in the book of Joshua.
In that experience of Joshua, we clearly see the circles of divine protection covering His children when they trust in Him and are obedient to His leading. The people obeyed very strange commands: to have the army go around the city once a day for seven days; seven priests with seven trumpets would go before the ark and they would have to go around seven times on the seventh day, instead of only once. The priests were to play the trumpets and at the indicated time, all the people would also participate by giving a loud shout. Then, through the word of God and perfect obedience, «the wall collapsed» (Joshua 6:20, NIV), because there is no construction built by human hands that does not succumb to the power of God.
«By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days» (Hebrews 11:30). By faith, the walls that beset your life will also fall. God puts a circle around you in order to protect you and make you know, «I am here beside you, my daughter; do not fear.»
The God of heaven, powerful and true, will destroy the great walls that you cannot make fall. Follow the divine instruction manual that is in His Word, and you will enter into a circle of sacred protection. You will see with your eyes the victory that He will give you.
