WISDOM
Josh (Shane Harper) is the lead actor in the movie God’s Not Dead (directed by Harold Cronk, 2014). In the plot, the young man refuses to sign a statement his Introduction to Philosophy teacher requires stating that God’s dead. Then, the professor defies him to defend his faith, convinced that in a short time he’ll snuff the Christian hope out of the boy’s heart. The young man accepts the challenge and, after long hours of study, exposes his arguments three times in front of his classmates. The lecturer tries to destroy his explanations at all costs, but the boy manages to forge ahead. In the end, Josh exposes the professor’s deep resentment toward God, and then asks him, «How can you hate God so much, if He doesn’t exist?»
The idea that God doesn’t exist might have come up some time in school or in your circle of friends. It’s also likely you’ve been attacked, to a greater or lesser degree, because you’re a Christian. I remember one of my most brilliant literature teachers was a fervent atheist. The interesting thing is he had been raised in a Christian home and knew the Scriptures. The combination of philosophical arguments with some Bible texts gave his attacks a particularly destructive tone.
How would you reply the day someone challenges you to demonstrate the existence of your heavenly Father? What do you think will be one of the greatest indications that He’s with us today? Nowadays we have different scientific and philosophical arguments that are very useful to develop interesting answers regarding God’s existence. Alister McGrath, a biophysicist and theologian, has very attractive books on the subject. However, I believe that a life that’s been transformed by God’s love is an unparalleled argument. When you see an unbeliever become a fervent Christian, you wonder: what’s happening with him? Suddenly the way he dresses, thinks, eats, has fun, etc. begins to change. The miracle of conversion is a unique experience in life. God changes people’s lives! It doesn’t matter where they are, there’s no place the Lord’s love can’t access to destroy any barrier, because nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:35-39).
Ask the Lord today that your life transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit will be a solid argument of His existence and sovereignty in this world.
